"I'm drawing simple styles, black and white but no symmetrical beauty . LIMBO is a space where the dead are caught in between this world and the next. i am talking about the story of these dead people. the way these paintings are made can be only described as being ironic and bizarre; it is a limbo resulting from a repeated skepticism of the world in uncertainty.

in the 80's, when i didn't even know what a dictatorial government is, i thought it's natural to watch american TV series and cartoons, coming home from work sharply at 6pm, have dinner with family and being picky while i'm eating, and after dinner watch TV together and then go to sleep. as i grew older, i realized that all these neutral memories are very special and i started to remind my childhood memories through my work. my personal life is very common, yet i learned by myself to see the world and find very awkward things in many contradictions. i'm not an ANTI-AMERICAN, i'm a piece of work of cultural half-breed, like eating kimchi and being into skateboarding at the same time."

"80년대 독재 정권이 어떤 것인지 모르던 시절, 외화물을 보며 누구나 저녁 6시가 되면 퇴근을 하고 가족들과 함께 저녁식사를 하며 반찬투정을 하다가 TV를 보며 잠드는 게 당연한 삶이라 여겨왔다. 하지만 나이가 들수록 당연했던 것들이 특별하다는 걸 알았으며, 나는 내 창작물을 통해서 어린 시절 느꼈던 생각을 재연하고 있다. 여러 가지 모순 속에서 남들보다 세상을 좀 더 삐딱하게 바라보는 시각이 생겨난 것 같다. 반미 감정은 없다. 나는 스케이트보드를 타면서 김치를 먹었던 문화적 혼혈아 정도로 보면 될 것 같다.

나는 균제미라고는 없는 명료한 흑백의 세계를 그리고 있다. 망자가 하늘로도 땅으로도 가지 않는 곳, 그곳이 림보라는 세계이다. 그 세계에 머물고 있는 이들의 이야기를 그림으로 표현하고 있다. 그러나 이런 그림을 그리는 방식은 하는 작품의 불분명한 세계관과 정반합 과정을 거쳐 아이러니하고 기괴한 세계이다. 내가 그리는 세계 안에 존재하는 캐릭터와 풍경들은 외형이 명확하고 극적인 특징을 지니고 있지만, 서사 구조를 떠나 보다 깊은 동기를 들여다보면 기저의 많은 부분이 불분명한 부분들이 많이 있다."
